Bolu Regional Directorate of Forestry receives European Enterprise Award

Yığılca Forest Sub-district under Bolu Regional Directorate of Forestry got European Enterprise Award in the competition attended by 29 countries with a total of 399 projects. In the framework of Forest Honey Production Project of General Directorate, “Forest Honey Production Project” conducted by Yığılca Forest Sub-district in cooperation with Düzce University Beekeeping Research, Development and Application Centre (DAGEM) and some local non-governmental organizations received European Enterprise Award in the promoting the entrepreneurial spirit category. On 24th May 2011, on behalf of General Directorate of Forestry, Erdem Karaağaç-Director of Yığılca Forest Sub-district, Meral Kekeçoğlu, lecturer in Düzce University and forest rangers Süleyman Gök and Adem Harmancı attended the award ceremony held in Hungarian National Gallery in Budapest. With this Project, 255 hectares of forest in Yığılca was allocated to make beekeeping possible and provided an important job opportunity for many locals, particularly women and unemployed persons. The project, therefore managed to integrate forest development, beekeeping, honey production and decrease unemployment and rate of migration away from the area.
